My approach towards
psychotherapy is strength based rather than pathology based.
I believe in clients’ strengths and intuitive wisdom.
People know the solution to their problems and my job is to
help them discover those answers. I take a collaborative approach
and draw from my clients’ strengths. I believe that clients
are the experts on themselves and their symptoms are ways of
coping. These coping styles need to be understood, explored,
and reintegrated into the personality so that we can get to
the root of the problem. If you only treat the symptom at the
superficial level, it will resurface like a weed. Therefore,
I do not offer a band-aid approach.
I believe in working with all facets of the psyche involving
the mind, body, and spirit. Human beings are complicated and
unique, thus my treatment style is individualized. I match my
treatment to my clients’ personality, resources, and strengths.
I empower my clients to actively participate in their treatment
instead of being passive recipients.
Research has shown that therapeutic relationship is the single
most important ingredient in determining therapy success. I
try to connect with my clients at their level. I try to understand
them in the context of their worldview and unique life experiences.
I see myself as bicultural; which I believe, gives me a broad
perspective on life; both personally and professionally. This
allows me to view issues from varied perspectives and offer
a flexible treatment approach.
I try to provide a comfortable and safe healing space for my
clients. This makes my profession sacred for me and I cannot
imagine doing anything else professionally.
