Phobia

Symptoms of Phobia

You may have a specific phobia if:

 1)      you have a marked and persistant fear that is excessive or unreasonable, cued by the presence or anticipation of a specific object or situation (eg,  flying phobia,  phobia of heights, animal phobia, injections, blood)

2)      when you are exposed to the phobic situation, you have intense anxiety.

3)      You recognize that the fear is excessive or unreasonable.

4)      You either avoid the phobic situation or endure with intense anxiety or distress

5)      Your phobia significantly interferes significantly in your normal routines, occupational or school functioning, social activities or relationships, or there is marked distress about having the phobia

6)      If you are under 18, you have had these symptoms for at least 6 months

 

Phobias may be: animal type (eg spiders), natural environment type (water), blood injection injury type, situational type (eg flying, driving), or other type
